Lomond Wines - The Wine Club

Lomond Wines - The Wine Club

  • 3 July 2020
We’re so excited to launch our Daily Dish Wine Club. This gives you a chance to enjoy free deliveries of world-class wines from local wineries - at exclusive cellar door prices. The alcohol and export bans during the national lockdown has had a serious impact on our local wine industry.

Our featured wine farm, Lomond Wines, is in the Cape Agulhas region at the southernmost tip of Africa, 8km from the fishing village of Gansbaai and within sight of the sea.

The wines

Lomond’s cultivars include merlot, syrah, sauvignon blanc and more, have been specially selected to match both the farm’s terroir and climate.

Their vineyards are planted on as many as 18 different soil types, which appear naturally in small pockets along the slopes and produce intriguingly complex wines with flavour profiles that differ markedly from one block to the next.

Only the finest grapes from the best vineyards are harvested, fermented and vinified separately to ensure that each wine retains the unique flavours and characteristics of the vineyard.

The complexity and character of their wines are an expression of the aspect,
soils and cool coastal climate of the Cape Agulhas region. The unique combination of geography, geology and climate results in terroir that is perfect for producing elegant, complex wines with texture and depth which allows the true identity of the fruit source to be portrayed.

Conservation

Whilst their focus has always been on producing high-quality wine based on the region’s cool
climate and diversity of soils, Lomond has also been actively involved in the bigger conservation landscape.

Lomond is the first South African Wine Farm to enter into a Conservation Servitude with Fauna and Flora International. This is to ensure the long-term preservation of the critically endangered Elim Ferricrete fynbos and Overberg Sandstone fynbos which occurs on the slopes of Ben Lomond, the mountain after which the farm is named. This includes ensuring the conservation of all-natural biodiversity through proactive conservation management of the site and adjoining area.

Although you may not be able to visit their beautiful estate and enjoy a wine tasting right now, you can enjoy the taste of their incredible wines at home! You can add their wines to your next dinner kit delivery on your subscription page.
