Ingredients to serve 1

  • 150g x sirloin steak
  • 1/4 tsp x Chinese five spice
  • 20g x fresh ginger – peel and grate
  • 1/4 x fresh chilli – de-seed and chop finely
  • 1 x garlic – crush, peel and chop finely
  • 1/2 x lemon – halve and juice
  • 3g x fresh coriander – chop coarsely
  • 1/4 x broccoli
  • 1 x spring onion – cut off ends and slice finely
  • 1 tsp x beef stock granules
  • 1 tbsp x soy sauce
  • 2 tsp x runny honey
  • . x olive oil, salt and pepper (from your pantry)

Step 1

Put a dry griddle/frying pan on high heat. On a chopping board rub both sides of the steak with salt, pepper, half the Chinese five spice and olive oil. Place the steak in hot pan and sear for 2 to 3 minutes either side for a medium steak. Adjust time to suit your preference. Important - only turn the steak once using tongs (or spoons). When done, place the steak on a chopping board and drizzle with olive oil. Then spoon on the ginger, chilli, half the garlic and half of the lemon juice. Let it stand for a few minutes and then slice at an angle (against the grain) into 1cm strips. Toss the strips in the spices and juices.

Step 2

Put a saucepan of lightly salted water on high heat. Add the broccoli and boil for 2 minutes. Remove the broccoli with a slotted spoon and set aside in a bowl and keep warm. Add the beef stock granules and mix well. Remove from the stove, pour the beef stock broth into a jug.

Step 3

Add the following ingredients to the bowl:soy sauce, spring onions, runny honey, half of the Chinese five spice, half the garlic and half of the lemon juice.

Step 4

Ladle a splash of the beef stock broth into the bowl. Then add the greens and sirloin strips. Garnish with chopped coriander.
