Chicago Style Sandwich

Black Forest Ham, blue cheese and fig preserve on freshly baked sourdough bread.




Ingredients to serve 2

  • 1 loaf x par-baked sourdough bread
  • 50g x black forest ham
  • 50g x Blue Rock cheese – grate coarsely
  • 40g x rocket leaves
  • 75g x fig preserves – slice (5mm)
  • . x freshly ground pepper (from your pantry)

Ingredients to serve 4

  • 2 loaves x par-baked sourdough bread
  • 100g x black forest ham
  • 100g x Blue Rock cheese – grate coarsely
  • 80g x rocket leaves
  • 150g x fig preserves – slice (5mm)
  • . x freshly ground pepper (from your pantry)

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 180◦C.

Step 2

Place the sourdough bread in the hot oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until nicely browned and crusty. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Prepare the ingredients as indicated above.

Step 4

To assemble, cut the bread into thick slices – two per person. Top each slice with layers of rocket leaves, black forest ham, grated blue cheese and fig slices. Drizzle a little fig preserve syrup over the top. Add a few twists of freshly ground pepper. Serve.
