Halloumi with Broccoli & Sesame

Halloumi and broccoli pan-fried in a tasty mix of South Indian flavours - hing, sesame, cumin, curry leaves, mustard seeds, ginger and garlic. A mouthwatering, quick-and-easy vegetarian dish.




Ingredients to serve 2

  • 1/2 head x broccoli head - break into small florets
  • 1/2 x chilli - de-seed, chop finely
  • 1/2 x red onion - peel and chop finely
  • 100g x halloumi cheese - slice (5mm)
  • 1 clove x garlic - crush, peel and chop finely
  • 1/2 tbsp x fresh ginger - peel and grate finely
  • 1/2 x lemon - halve and juice
  • 4 x curry leaves
  • 1 tsp x cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp x hing
  • 1/2 tbsp x sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp x mustard seeds
  • olive oil, salt & pepper (from your pantry)

  • 1 head x broccoli head - break into small florets
  • 1 x chilli - de-seed, chop finely
  • 1 x red onion - peel and chop finely
  • 200g x halloumi cheese - slice (5mm)
  • 2 cloves x garlic - crush, peel and chop finely
  • 1 tbsp x fresh ginger - peel and grate finely
  • 1 x lemon - halve and juice
  • 8 x curry leaves
  • 2 tsp x cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp x hing
  • 1 tbsp x sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp x mustard seeds
  • olive oil, salt & pepper (from your pantry)

Method

Step 1

Put a large saucepan with lightly salted water on high heat. Add the broccoli floretsi and boil for about 3 or 4 minutes until tender but still a little crunchy. Drain and cool under cold running water.

Step 2

Put a few glugs of olive oil in a frying pan on medium to LOW heat. Add the hing, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, chilli, mustard seeds and the curry leaves. Cook for about a minute and then turn up the heat and add the onion and cook another 2 minutes.

Step 3

Now add the halloumi slices, ginger, garlic, salt and pepper. Cook on a medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes until the halloumi turns golden. Then add the broccoli and gently mix through. Lastly add the lemon juice.

Step 4

Divide the mixture between the plates and serve immediately.
